1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Social Narratives website and iOS application (together, the “Service”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service for or with a child, you confirm that you are the child’s parent, legal guardian, educator, professional, or another adult with authority to provide the information you submit and to use the Service for that child. The Service is not offered to children acting on their own behalf.
2. What the Service does
Social Narratives is a tool for creating AI-generated, personalised narratives about a situation. Users can optionally create a child profile, describe a situation, request a story and optional illustration, save stories, listen to them using the device’s text-to-speech capability, and share or print a story as a PDF.
The Service is designed to support understanding of a situation. It does not prescribe a child’s feelings or behaviour, and it is not designed to enforce compliance.
3. Important limitations
The Service is not medical, psychological, therapeutic, educational, legal, crisis, or emergency advice. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and it does not replace an appropriate qualified professional. Do not rely on a story as the sole basis for a health, safety, safeguarding, educational-placement, or other high-stakes decision. If there is an immediate risk of harm or a medical emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service or qualified professional.
AI-generated content may be incomplete, inaccurate, unsuitable, or unexpectedly phrased. You are responsible for reviewing every story and illustration before using, reading, printing, sharing, or relying on it. Adapt the content to the child, context, and professional advice where appropriate.
4. Your responsibilities
You agree to:
- provide only information you have the right to provide and use the minimum information necessary;
- not submit another person’s personal information, especially a child’s sensitive or health-related information, without proper authority;
- review generated content before sharing it with a child or another person;
- keep your device, Apple Account, and exported PDF files secure;
- use the Service lawfully and in a way that does not harm, exploit, threaten, harass, discriminate against, or violate the rights of others; and
- not attempt to interfere with, reverse engineer, overload, bypass security for, or gain unauthorised access to the Service.
You must not use the Service to create or distribute unlawful content, sexual content involving minors, content that facilitates abuse or exploitation, or content that is otherwise prohibited by applicable law.
5. Sensitive information and child data
A story request can contain information about a child. Optional support needs are selected from a fixed list and may include autism, ADHD, anxiety, sensory needs, communication needs, a preference for routines, difficulty with change, or emotional regulation. You can create a story without selecting a support need. If you select one and submit a story request, you expressly request that we use that selection to tailor the story. You confirm that you have authority to provide it and that it is helpful for the story you request. You may remove a selection at any time. Our handling and short-term storage of request information is explained in the Privacy Policy.
6. AI generation and third-party services
Story text and optional illustrations are generated using third-party AI services. We may change models, providers, technical systems, or delivery methods where reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, or comply with law in relation to the Service. We do not use submitted information or generated content to train AI models. We do not guarantee that an output will be unique, available at all times, free from error, or appropriate for every use. Do not submit confidential information that you would not want processed by the providers described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Content, ownership, and licence
You retain any rights you have in the information you submit. Subject to these Terms and applicable law, you may use the generated stories and illustrations for your personal, family, educational, or professional-support use. As between you and us, we do not claim ownership of your submitted story content merely because you use the Service.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, process, reproduce, transmit, and use your submitted information and generated content solely to provide, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and comply with law in relation to the Service. This licence ends when the relevant information is deleted from our systems, except where retention is required or permitted by law.
The Service, its software, interface, branding, templates, and other materials are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited permission above, these Terms do not grant you rights in them.
8. Availability and changes
The Service depends on internet connectivity, Apple services, AWS, and AI providers. It may be unavailable, delayed, interrupted, or changed. We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features, including languages, illustration generation, storage, or notifications, when reasonably necessary to operate, secure, or comply with law.
9. Payments and App Store terms
Eligible new installations receive 30 free credits. These credits do not expire and are initially linked to that installation. You can link a credit wallet to your Apple Account to restore eligible credit balances and subscriptions on another installation. The credit wallet is not a bank account, has no cash value, and cannot be sold, transferred, or exchanged for cash except where applicable law requires otherwise.
The app offers non-expiring credit packs as consumable in-app purchases and auto-renewable monthly subscriptions that provide a monthly allocation of credits. Before you buy, the app and the App Store display the available product, credit amount, price, currency, billing period, renewal terms, and applicable taxes. Credit-pack credits do not expire once granted. Subscription credits are available only during the applicable subscription period, do not roll over, and expire at the end of that period; the allocation is refreshed when a subscription renews.
Payments, subscriptions, billing, cancellations, refunds, and payment methods are handled by Apple’s App Store and subject to Apple’s applicable terms. A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it through your Apple Account settings before the end of the current billing period. Cancelling stops future renewal and does not normally end the current subscription period early. You can use Restore Purchases in the app to restore an eligible active subscription; a consumable credit-pack purchase is not generally restorable through Apple once consumed.
If Apple grants a refund or revokes a purchase, we may remove the related unused credits from your balance. If the related credits have already been used, we may apply the amount to future credit grants as a refund balance adjustment. Except where required by applicable law, we do not provide refunds directly for consumable credit purchases; refund requests must be made to Apple. Mandatory consumer-protection rights continue to apply.
You can delete your credit account in the app. This permanently disables the wallet and discards any remaining credits. It does not cancel an App Store subscription, which you must manage through your Apple Account settings.
10. Suspension or termination
We may suspend or stop access to the Service if we reasonably believe that you have breached these Terms, created a security or legal risk, or used the Service in a way that could harm other users, children, third parties, or the Service. Where practicable, we will explain the reason. You may stop using the Service at any time and may delete local app data through the app’s settings.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every output will be accurate, complete, safe, suitable, or fit for a particular purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.
12. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive losses, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from use of the Service.
Subject to the preceding paragraph, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) HUF 50,000. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death, or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable law prohibits exclusion.
13. Consumer rights
If you are a consumer, you may have mandatory rights under the law of your country of residence. These Terms do not limit those rights. Where digital-content, cancellation, refund, or conformity rights apply, they remain available to the extent required by law.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Hungarian law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules that apply in the consumer’s country of residence. The courts with jurisdiction under applicable law will have jurisdiction over disputes relating to these Terms or the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits a consumer’s right to bring a contractual claim before the court that mandatory law makes available to them, including the court determined by their domestic residence where applicable.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, law, or our operations. We will post the revised Terms on this page and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where required by law. Continuing to use the Service after the revised Terms take effect means you accept them, unless applicable law requires a different process.
